Description:

The “Last Oasis” is a learning adventure that takes participants to the very heart of a Javanese rainforest. The program is facilitated from a spectacular “glamping” facility in Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park. Participants will take part in various activities: Rainforest trek to waterfalls and a nearby summit – deep forest exploration with an overnight stay at our remote satellite camp, complete with solos! This is a full day forest hike covering approximately 8 kms. Students will follow a stream through the rainforest to a series of spectacular waterfalls, before beginning an ascent to forest camp. There is a strong likelihood of encountering gibbons on this hike – make sure to listen for them howling in the canopy. The forest summit will be ...the participants’ “remote camp” for one night – truly an opportunity to experience “deep jungle” at night with all its extraordinary sounds. Service learning initiative: Indigenous tree farming and forest repopulation project Participants will help Odyssey Institute and the National Park authorities in the development of a “tree farm” dedicated to endangered tree species. Activities will include the planting of rare tree saplings at secret locations inside the national park. Evenings will be dedicated to campfires, storytelling and small group reflections on the plight and beauty of the forest.   Learning Objectives
